Most gamers I know already hate GameStop, but I thought I'd share this just so no one makes the same mistake as I do. Found a job last fall and there's always a ton of new releases at that time, so I figured I'd sign up. I could buy games other places, but GameStop is the closest and my mentality was 'Sure they suck dick, but at least I can get rewards. ![]() $60 is $60 regardless of where I spend it and I'd still rather go to GS than Wal-Mart.' OK so you get 10 points for each dollar. Quick rundown of things I bought. Dark Souls - 600 pts NHL 13 - 600 pts Game Library Updated - 250 pts (cool, didn't cost me anything) RockSmith - 700 pts (orig. Price was $80 but I got it discounted. GameStop PowerUp Rewards program provides card activation at www.poweruprewards.com/activate. Show your card when you make a purchase at GameStop to score points for. Hey everyone. For some reason I can't activate my card. I've been a member since Jan 2011, and have renewed my same card multiple times since. You only get pts for what you spend though) Skyrim - 600 pts Twisted Metal - 630 pts (idiot at the store charged me for the replacement plan without asking. I didn't notice till I got home) SSX - 600 pts Ok so I have 3980 pts for spending over $370 there. ![]() ![]() Lets go ahead and round up to 5000 pts because you can't get anything worth mentioning for less. So if you spend $500 and get 5000 points you can get. Five fuking dollars off any item! Compare this to: Best Buy Rewards: You get $5 for every 250 spent. It's already twice as good as GameStop. -On top of this, if you join the Gamers Club for $15 you earn double points on games (making 4x better than GS) and you get $20 for certain pre-orders. Which is like Buy 3 get 1 Free. Oh and did I mention on used games, it's Buy 2 get 1 Free? Amazon: I'm not sure if Prime has any special rewards, but many new releases include a $10 gift card and free shipping if you pre-order. At that rate, it's already 10x better than GameStop. I'm sure there's more, but those are pretty much 2 of the biggest retailers in the country (world?) and they blow GameStop out of the water. Why does this place even exist? I mean the used game thing I get. If you go to any retailer and try and sell them your stuff, you will get screwed over. But you still might be able to get good prices on new items. GameStop sells nothing but games and they literally have the worst prices, the worst deals, the worst rewards program, and a pretty chitty selection of actual games. Just a friendly reminder to everyone to never waste your money in this chit hole. Do they still do that thing where they open brand new games, take the disc out of the case, then put the disc back in a case when you purchase the game? I remember when I bought MW2 from Gamestop a few years back 'new'. Got home, installed the game, tried to activate my code, said code was already taken. Thought I misspelled it, tried a few more times before I realized someone had bought the game from gamestop, activated it on Steam, then took the game back to gamestop for a full refund. So I had to drive all the fckin way back to gamestop for the manager to give me sh!t about how 'she shouldn't return it', like that was gonna fly.
